How small can a desktop PC go nowadays. Raspberi Pi set the trend for small, portable and cheap computers that can be assembled and programmed by kids. Kano took the idea one step further and created an entire kit for kids. These linux based computers are good for kids and to meddle with as a hobby but at the end of the day, many would still run back to Windows for work. This is where products like Raydget miniPCs come in.

The Raydget line of mini computers are made by a Taiwanese company called Communication Technology Ltd that was originally established in Russia. The company does manufacture many different types of electronic devices but the one that interests us the most is the SlimBox miniPC series. The Raydget SlimBox IV is the latest to join the family and this time around, the company has managed to squeeze in a Haswell based PC into that svelte box which is only 16mm thick. That’s equivalent to two iPhone 5s stacked on each other and at 145 (W) x 77(L), the SlimBox IV is also slightly smaller in size than a Samsung GALAXY Note 3.

Looking at the internals, the SB IV has 3 different options for processor: i7-4600U 3.3 GHz, i7-4500U 3 GHz and i3-4010U 1.7 GHz. It only has one SO-DIMM slot that can accept 4 – 8 GB DDR3L-1600 RAM and for storage, it can be configured with mSATA SATA III SSD drive with capacities ranging from 64 – 256 GB. Other goodies include Intel HD 4400 for video, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Ethernet port and 2 USB 3.0 ports, among others. Despite all this, the SB IV only weighs around 200 grams.

Communication Technology Ltd has other devices in the Raydget line and it looks like it is aiming for the corporate sectors with these devices. With the BYOD culture that many companies are adopting, you can now do the opposite and bring back your office desktop home.
